Sprouted seeds is one of the most nutritious foods your bird can get. The sprouting process stimulates the seed starting to grow, and therefore it releases good enzymes that are easily digested. The body will also absorb the rich source of proteins, vitamins and minerals, making it a super food for your bird. Sprouts are great for encouraging your bird to try new foods.
How to sprout seeds: Rinse seed mix with cold water (2-3 tablespoons is enough for 2 small birds) Place the seeds in a container with a lid and fill with cold water about an inch above the seeds Soak the seeds for no longer than 8 hours Seeds should now look swollen as they’ve absorbed the water Rinse with cold water until it runs clear and place in a glass jar with an appropriate sprouting lid You can sprout just about any raw seed which is whole including oats, rice, and other grains, cereals, peas, beans, and lentils. Safflower, sunflower, and sesame seeds are also possibilities. A great seed mix to sprout is Green Valley Grains Parrot Mix which has barely, oats, sunflowers, maize, sorghum, safflower, and wheat.
Or another is our Open Range Poultry Mix which is fantastic if you have chickens
Rinse no less than 4 times a day Once the seeds grow ‘tails’, give them a final rinse, drain and then they can be fed Under ideal conditions it should take no longer than 2 days to be ready for feeding
DO NOT feed if they have a strong sour smell or if the seeds look fermented Spoiled sprouted seeds are harmful to your bird Never sprout seeds in direct sunlight
